Hydra and Spetses

Because you cannot take your own vehicle onto the islands of either Hydra or Spetses we decided to park up at the port of Tolo (37.514788 22.856754) and take a day trip by boat.
The Tolo ferry parking area is right by a main road thru Tolo so it is not quiet but in May 2019 nobody objected to us being there overnight.
The day trip is run by Pegasus Cruises every few days and can be booked and paid for on-line, when we were there it left Tolo at 08:45 and returned at 19:30.
Although the trip is described as a "cruise" this if fairly optimistic, it is best to take your own food if you want to eat on board. Many people had underestimated how cool it would be at sea. The ship goes first to Hydra (about two hours thirty minutes) where we stayed for about three hours.
Although the harbour area of Hydra is quite crowded and very touristy it remains attractive with lots of up-market shops and many restaurants.
There are no cars on Hydra so if you want transport it has be organic.
You only have to walk a few 100 metres up hill from the harbour to loose all the other tourists!
If you are a Leonard Cohen fan you can try to find his house on Hydra and spot the original newly introduced wire on which the bird sat.
Even without the rain the island of Spetses is a lot less attractive than Hydra and the two hours spent there on the return journey were sufficient.
After the rather noisy car park at the south end of Tolo we moved a few kilometers to the highly recommended Kastraki campsite to the north east (37.528314 22.875908).
