Greece and the EU 2019

Michele & Stephen's trip in 2019

Olympia

"Downing Street under pressure to close down Labour talks on Brexit"

So far it has rained every day we have been in Greece.

For the last two days we have been in Olympia where the Olympic Games took place every four years for at least 1000 years! It probably looks better in the sunshine, but even in the pouring rain it is impressive.

Below is the partially restored Philippeion (which as you probably know was built by Philip of Macedon to commemorate the battle of Chaironeia in 338 BCE).

The Stadium has a stone start and finish line (120 metres apart).

The on-site archaeological museum has a number of stunning exhibits including a pediment* showing a fight between centaurs and Lapiths at the wedding feast of Pirithous.

* A wide, low-pitched gable surmounting the façade of a building in the Grecian style.

We have (over) eaten at the delightful Aegean restaurant in town and thoroughly recommend it, particularly the baklava.
