The Marrakai Track
and the Old Jim Jim Road.

The most direct way from Litchfield National Park to Kakadu National Park is via the Marrakai Track and the Old Jim Jim Road. It looked good on the map and we passed no Road Closed signs so we went that way.

Clearly there were some unusual hazards...

...but the road was generally good...

...with a few wet bits...

...but what we had not expected was that for much of the track there would be deliberately started bush fires on both sides of the road.

When we reached the east end of the Marrakai Track we noticed that it was closed (and severe penalties applied)

So we went back by the main (tarmac) road.
