The Northern Lights
We were not really far enough North, nor was it winter, but we did see the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) at Prelude Lake on the Ingraham Trail about 30km east of Yellowknife on 2013-08-12.
Luckily for us our neighbour in the campground was a keen photographer and determined to photograph the Northern Lights, so he stayed up each night, and woke us up when the Aurora was visible - at 02:30. Thank you.
The sixteen photographs to the right were taken at about 20 second intervals. Each photograph was a 10 second exposure at F3.5, ISO Speed 1600, with a Canon EOS 450D.
The photographs have not been enhanced and give a good representation of the colour and brightness actually seen. However the 20 times "speed up" does make them look more dramatic.
