This first section of the Journal covers the geographical aspects of the village. The objective is to provide a basic framework against which to view the various projects and articles which follow. So it is not by accident that we begin with Lucinda Lourie's field name map which gives an overview of the whole parish and puts real names to the agricultural patchwork which many of us are very happy to look out upon without perhaps realising the historical and social significance of what we see.
The second project features David Muston's aerial photographs of the parish which help build our understanding of how the village grew within its supporting pattern of fields, hedgerows and ancient pathways.
The final project in this section shows Keith Hope-Lang's computer map of the area on which are being entered the details of all buildings and significant ground features, together with facts of historical interest and any archeological findspots.
